The Happiness Planner: Peony Planner

I decided to give the Happiness Planner a try this year to test out different planners in the hopes of finding or creating the ultimate planner. Last year, things got really busy during the holidays and I found that I didn’t even have time to create the pages in my bullet journal. Also, my friend had given me a Midori Notebook Diary 2017 as a present (the ones where you can scrapbook your week – like a travel journal). I loved it but that took up a lot of time to fill in the days and doodle or paste in ticket stubs and clippings from my daily adventures.

Daiso Animal Print Stationery Sets

My friend recently came to visit from Canada and they don’t have a Daiso store there (Daiso is a Japanese “dollar-store”, items mainly cost $1.50 with some items costing between $3-$10). So I brought her to a few of the Daiso stores we had in the area. To be honest, the notebooks they carry do not have good quality papers. But the store does have a lot of stationery products and I ended up finding some of these cute message card envelope sets that I thought were useful.

Pilot Juice Metallic Gel Ink Pens

Pilot Juice Metallic Gel (Set)

SPECS

  • Water-based pigment gel ink
  • Ballpoint pen
  • 0.5mm point
  • 6 metallic color set
  • Brand: Pilot
  • Price: 9.00 USD for the set

Over the holidays, I visited my parents back home and went to this old stationery shop that I used to frequent when I was growing up.

I don’t have any pens that are metallic colors because I always had a bad experience buying them growing up. First, they were low quality, and second, I never used them much because they didn’t write well and ended up going bad (the gel and ink separated in the barrel – anyone else ever had this happen?). But I do like the metallic colors and the idea of decorating a hand-written card or a journal with it.

I had been in need of a new journal for a while, something to just write daily events in. My favorite journal to date has been the I Can’t Sleep Inner Truth Journal by Knock Knock. It was just a fun journal. I liked the quotes and colors even though it was quite bulky at 7 x 9.5 inches.

Another previous journal that I tried using was a Northbooks notebook. But found it was not ideal for journaling (at least for me). The notebook itself is a quality notebook, which I will probably do a review on in the future. But the pages didn’t lay flat so it was hard for me to write in. This bothered me since I couldn’t use the full page and my pen would be uneven while I wrote.

For journaling, the paper quality is not as important to me. But the binding should allow the pages to lay flat so I can write from edge to edge. A bonus if it looks pretty, but everything else is optional for me. This is one of those journals I just want to write in and forget.

THE EVERYDAY PEN

This is my “go-to” pen, I use it every single day when I’m writing in my notebook or bullet journaling. As a standard ballpoint pen, it writes smoothly with no skips on most paper surfaces. This pen has a fine point tip of 0.38mm, which works great for me. Since my writing is a mess when I’m brainstorming. The thin lines really helps with the readability after.

I came across the Miliko dotted grid spiral notebook because I was looking for something I could draft and test designs for layouts and icons without feeling guilty about being messy. I usually do drafts before getting a final draft on a higher quality dotted grid notebook. Honestly, I have never heard of this brand of notebooks and they don’t have a lot of reviews (57 as of writing this).
