I decided to give the Happiness Planner a try this year to test out different planners in the hopes of finding or creating the ultimate planner. Last year, things got really busy during the holidays and I found that I didn’t even have time to create the pages in my bullet journal. Also, my friend had given me a Midori Notebook Diary 2017 as a present (the ones where you can scrapbook your week – like a travel journal). I loved it but that took up a lot of time to fill in the days and doodle or paste in ticket stubs and clippings from my daily adventures.
The code&quill notebook is advertised as designed by creatives for creatives and thinkers. Pages on the left side are dotted grid paper, meant for sketches and wireframes. Pages on the right side are indentation ruled, meaning its ruled paper but has little ticks at the bottom which marks as “indents”. The indentation ruled pages are meant for notes and code.

I had been in need of a new journal for a while, something to just write daily events in. My favorite journal to date has been the I Can’t Sleep Inner Truth Journal by Knock Knock. It was just a fun journal. I liked the quotes and colors even though it was quite bulky at 7 x 9.5 inches.
Another previous journal that I tried using was a Northbooks notebook. But found it was not ideal for journaling (at least for me). The notebook itself is a quality notebook, which I will probably do a review on in the future. But the pages didn’t lay flat so it was hard for me to write in. This bothered me since I couldn’t use the full page and my pen would be uneven while I wrote.
For journaling, the paper quality is not as important to me. But the binding should allow the pages to lay flat so I can write from edge to edge. A bonus if it looks pretty, but everything else is optional for me. This is one of those journals I just want to write in and forget.

I came across the Miliko dotted grid spiral notebook because I was looking for something I could draft and test designs for layouts and icons without feeling guilty about being messy. I usually do drafts before getting a final draft on a higher quality dotted grid notebook. Honestly, I have never heard of this brand of notebooks and they don’t have a lot of reviews (57 as of writing this).
